Baking with Kids- Banana Bread

Basic Banana Bread

This basic recipe steps up to a whole new level when baking with four children!  What to do with kids and severely overripe bananas on a rainy day? Well make banana bread of course.  I stuck with the most basic recipe and added my own twist of “good luck sugar” (cinnamon sugar mixture) everyone had a chance to sprinkle on top.  I prepped all the ingredients so only minimal measuring was required and the kids had a blast.  The hardest part was waiting for the bread to cook a whole hour in the oven.

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas, smashed
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 3/4 C granulated sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour

Mix all wet and dry ingredients separately before combining.  We mixed by hand as it was more fun and less dangerous for the kids.  Bake for one hour in a 350 degree oven.  I let it sit in the pan 10 minutes before moving to the cutting board.  Simple and sweet.

I have cute pictures of the kids with the bread in their baking outfits, but will keep those off as I do not have permission to post their photos.
